According to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Iowa is home to 231,655 veterans, with 174,038 serving in wartime, and 57,616 in peacetime. Of the wartime service vets, 66,207 were in the Gulf War, 77,914 served during the Vietnam “police action”, 22,351 the Korean Conflict, and 11,921 WWII.
216,585 of Iowa’s veterans are men, and 15,070 are women.
